Questions we get a lot

What is DPDP and how does it affect my eCommerce store?

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act is India's first comprehensive data privacy law. For eCommerce, it means you need explicit, purpose-specific consent before collecting or using any customer data: email, phone, browsing behaviour, purchase history. You can no longer bundle consent into your T&Cs or pre-tick marketing boxes. Every data touchpoint on your store needs a clear yes behind it.

When does DPDP enforcement begin?

The Act was passed in 2023. The rules are being finalised and full enforcement is expected by 2027. That sounds far, but re-consenting a legacy database, updating your checkout flow, and building an audit trail takes time. Brands that start now will have a compliant, clean database. Brands that wait will be scrambling.

Will DPDP compliance hurt my conversion rates?

Only if it's done badly. A generic cookie banner bolted on top of your checkout will hurt conversions. A clear, branded, one-tap consent experience that explains exactly what you'll do with customer data and why it benefits them builds trust. Trust converts. We've seen opt-in rates go up, not down, when consent is designed properly.

How does your AI generate consent experiences?

You drop in your store URL. Our AI crawls your customer journey, identifies every point where data is collected: checkout, WhatsApp opt-in, email capture, retargeting pixels, and generates purpose-specific consent copy for each one. It's pre-loaded with DPDP-compliant language and matched to your brand tone. You review, tweak, and publish. The whole thing takes minutes, not weeks.

Do I need a Data Protection Officer?

Under DPDP, certain businesses are required to appoint a DPO, primarily those handling large volumes of sensitive personal data. For most eCommerce brands, a designated internal point of contact is sufficient to start. We help you document who that is, what their responsibilities are, and how to log it in a way that satisfies regulatory requirements.

Can I integrate with Shopify, WooCommerce, or custom stacks?

Yes. We have native plugins for Shopify and WooCommerce, and a lightweight JS snippet for custom-built stores. Consent data syncs back to your ESP, WhatsApp provider, and ad platforms automatically, so your marketing tools always reflect the current consent state of your database without any manual work.

2-minute self-assessment
YES NO
Question 1 of 5 Do you collect email or phone numbers without a clear purpose statement?

DPDP requires you to state exactly why you're collecting data before collecting it.

Question 2 of 5 Do you use customer data for retargeting without separate consent?

Retargeting is a separate purpose. It needs its own explicit yes.

Question 3 of 5 Can customers easily withdraw their data consent post-purchase?

Withdrawal must be as easy as giving consent, ideally through a self-serve preference centre.

Question 4 of 5 Do you share customer data with third-party marketing tools without their consent?

Sharing data with any third party requires a specific, separate consent.

Question 5 of 5 Have you appointed a Data Protection Officer or point of contact?

DPDP requires a designated person responsible for data protection compliance.
